What We Do

As we learn from expert farmers and ranchers in the regenerative agriculture arena we are constantly improving our systems of management and, in turn, our product. We understand that you are what you eat, and what you eat eats. :) That’s why we strive to produce the best quality meat at a competitive price.

Our Beef:

  • We only feed them grass or hay, no grain of any kind. The pasture they are on is not sprayed with any weed killers or pesticides and we do our best to buy hay of the same quality.
  • We rotationally graze our cattle by moving them frequently, usually daily, to fresh grass. This mimics the way the Bison graze on the Plains, which minimizes parasites, gives the land a rest period to re-grow, and maximizes the muscle development for our cattle.
  • We give them free access to high quality minerals and sea salt so they can maintain healthy mineral levels in their body. And we give them raw apple cider vinegar to improve their gut health and parasite resistance.
  • We do not vaccinate or medicate with antibiotics unless it is necessary to save an animal’s life; in which case we would sell the animal in a disclosed way.

We currently buy our cattle and keep them about one year. We do our best to purchase animals that have already been on a diet of grass and hay only, and un-vaccinated. By supporting our business you are helping us move towards our goal of breeding our own cattle and raising them from birth!

Our Pork:

We raise our pigs outside in the fresh air and sunshine. They get to run, play, dig in the dirt and be their happy healthy selves. This is important for many reasons, but some of the top ones are:

  • Sun - results in much higher levels of Vitamin D3 in their fat. Pastured lard is one the top foods for naturally occurring vitamin D content.
  • Fresh Air - is much better for their respiratory system than being in barns on slats. In most barns the pigs are directly over their own excrement, breathing the ammonia off gas constantly, which often leads to respiratory problems.
  • Dirt - Pigs were created to dig, they have noses like little shovels. Allowing them to root around and express their natural tendencies makes them happy, lowers their stress and also exposes them to good soil microbes which improves their immune systems.
  • Room to move - giving them space to run and play with each other allows for proper muscle development that results in improved texture in the meat and increases their health just like exercise does for us. ;)

We do things to enhance all these benefits:

  • They are on pasture or forest land in the warm months. We rotate them to a fresh area about once per week, this gives the forage a chance to recover, helps control pests, and gives the pigs a fresh area to root in.
  • We give them raw apple cider vinegar to benefit their gut health and boost their immune system.
  • We feed them a high quality non-GMO grain recipe that is balanced in amino acids and has all the minerals they need to grow well. Jon spends many hours researching and consulting with feed experts to make sure that our feed is well balanced and meets all of the pigs nutritional needs.
  • We do not give them antibiotics or vaccinations and do our best to source our piglets from local farmers who have the same practices as we do.

Our overarching goal is to use the animals to heal the land so that future generations of farmers can have a better foundation; better soil to start with, better water sequestering, and better plant diversity.  The animals put down manure as fertilizer and the action of their hooves stimulates the land and encourages more growth and diverse plant species, over time the soil improves and can produce more. As we use these practices to work in harmony with nature we can help speed up the natural healing process of the land.

An added benefit is that the meat we produce is tender, delicious, and nutrient dense! It’s a wonderful way to give your body the building blocks it needs to repair itself and grow stronger.
